Getting Unstuck from Anxiety
Sometimes we get stuck worrying about what might happen. We get fixated on making the right choice, or thinking that we aren’t capable, and that paralyzes us from making any decision.
Feel the feelings, allow the feelings to inform your response but not control it.
Our minds are amazing machines that can make things that we haven’t experienced feel like they are going to happen, or things that have happened years ago, to feel like they are happening right now.
If you are feeling overwhelmed with the future you can practice having a compassionate dialogue with yourself. Imagine this worried part of you is a child version of yourself.
“I see, you’re worried about this happening, I get that, that’s a really scary thought. At the moment, it is not happening, I am here, I am going to keep you safe, and I love you. Is there anything else you need to feel safe?”
Pause for a moment to give space to see what that part of you needs.
Pause for another moment and think about how you want to feel in the situation, what would it look like to embody that feeling, what resources you need to cultivate that feeling, how you can get those resources.
