Tricks for Social Anxiety

For people that are experiencing social anxiety, try out these two tricks and see if it makes social events just a little bit easier.

This won’t eliminate social anxiety but it might help you to stay grounded and create some beautiful connections with people.

The first trick is that before you head into the event, maybe you are in your car or walking to the location, visualize what it is you want to feel.

Peace, confidence, joy, compassion, presence, curiosity, etc.

Visualize yourself filling up with this emotion and that if anyone were to see you they would know that you are grounded in this feeling.

How would you walk into the room, how would you hold yourself, how would you breathe, how would you interact with people. Try to feel it throughout your whole body and what it would look like to move through the world embodying this emotion. Know that feeling is inside you, you don’t have to do anything to earn this feeling, you have an inherent connection with this feeling.

A second trick is that while you are in the room before engaging in a conversation, maybe walking up to someone, think one of these sentences to yourself, whichever resonates more.

“There is something about this person I am curious about”

“There is something about this person I admire”

That will help you to focus on what is important, being present and being curious. Releasing whatever is blocking you from connection.
